India as Higher Education Destination

India as a Higher Education destination

India, as a nation, is oft-quoted to offer a vast variety of indulgences when it comes to art, culture, history, food, architecture and heritage. What perhaps usually goes unnoticed is its landscape for education. Our diversity and plurality, our rich traditional history and wealth of pre-existing indigenous knowledge infuse richness and depth in our education system. While many Indians flock to other countries for their higher studies, recent years have marked a change in trends as a large chunk of foreign nationals are choosing India as their ideal destination for higher studies.

A quick glance at statistics will validate the claim that India is a rising and growing hub of higher studies. The Institute of International Education Open Doors 2015 report stated that over 4500 US students studied in India during the academic year 2013-2014. Study abroad participation by US students to India has increased by 18% since 2010. The QS Higher Education System Strength Rankings 2016 placed India at the 24th position in the world. The QS Asia University Rankings 2018 featured 23 top universities of India and nine found their way into the top 100. With pioneering institutes including but not limited to Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, University of Delhi, and University of Calcutta among many others, the Indian higher education system offers international quality education. India as higher education system is the largest preceding only by China and the US. According to the University Grants Commission statistics, as of February 2017, India is home to 789 universities, 37,204 colleges and 11,443 stand-alone institutions which include private as well as public institutes. What transforms India into an ideal destination for higher studies is our cost-effective education system, scientific method of inquiry and teaching, a plethora of subjects and college options to select the most suitable combination, a well-established and dynamic infrastructure and a body of highly skilled and trained faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. a highly conducive environment for research, experimentation and innovation owing to our rapidly growing economy. The most beneficial aspect of studying in India is provided by the fact that we are evolving as an education system which gives students space to grow, develop, learn and mature into a beautiful symphony of analytical and creative beings with a strong passion to pursue their dreams!
